REL S/5 Subwoofer

REL S/5 Subwoofer

The REL S/5 Subwoofer is not really a subwoofer. It's more a sub, sub-woofer. By which we mean it's sub-dominant. Not sub-dominant, in a musical sense. A sub-woofer extends the frequency response to a respectable 20 Hz and/or lower down in frequency. REL is very musical.

$2500.00 USD is quite a respectable price. That's a pair of Cartier Sunglasses, Santos Dumont, should you like Horn.

A specified -6 db cutoff at 21 Hz on a subwoofer press release is a rather cheap way of actively saying - pretending, rather - that the response goes down.

Including a 12" passive driver with a 12" active driver will however (like the Totem Acoustics Earth Loudspeaker, which also includes a passive-active woofer driver arrangement) make for a quite pleasing bass sound, however: lively, toe-tapping and musical.

Overall, you will find REL (not only S/5) bass quite lovely and authoritative.

At the recent Vancouver Audio Show, Hi Fi Center's presentation of Franco Serbin's Accordo Loudspeaker along with REL Acosutics bass accompaniment was some of the most musically and emotionally pleasant sound.

Hat's off to REL for this engagement.

We find the REL both engaging and authoritative.
