For the reviewer, the MSB Select DAC ticks off all the right boxes. It is the right price. $74,950 USD.
This makes it somewhere below the legendary Weiss producer's DAC ($200,000 USD), and the DCS Stack ($79,996 USD). The three-box Vivaldi is cheaper, however. ($68,497.00 USD). We prefer Scarlatti, compositionally speaking.
What's interesting is that as a high-end person, you are asked to make a decision. XLR or Single-ended. $150,000 USD for both. This makes it difficult for a reviewer, who is on a small budget.
You are also given a 10 year warranty, which is 1/2 that of Bryston.
Is it a good investment? You can't get a car for that, though you can get a Liquid Metal paint job on your 918. ($64,000 USD).
Seen from the front, we can imagine the MSB as a good product. We can cast it in a cast-iron finish, adding weight and authenticity. It would make an attractive skillet or waffle iron, not to waffle.
We can see it as a Mark Levinson product. Technology goes. Whether you choose to invest is your thing. Like Sanders offering a lifetime warranty, it's comforting to know that you might have for ten (10) years, the best that MSB Technology might have to offer.
