Sportswear: The Sennheiser IE80 Headphone Use-Case Headphone Review Scenario

How would you like to be on a beach in the Maldives? Listening to the sound of your heart, as you gaze out into the beauty of nature before you? Would the IE 80 bring out that trust?

Shown above is how Magico's Alon Wolf might look in such a situation. It's not Alon Wolf, it's a glad model illustrating how the IE 80 might look in such a situation. There's some hold-back in the man's gaze, however .. he's no Alon Wolf.

It's trim enough with basic black, and grey, and it a quite sturdy "piece of kit" as the British will say.

The Sennheiser IE80 is a soft-and-sweet headphone. At low volume, we prefer our reference AKG K375 in presentation. You will notice quite a bit of detail with the IE80 than you will cognitively hear with other in-ear headphones. More than we would like, to be faithfully honest upfront. The headphone is able to go to high volumes without over-loading, quite well. There is distortion however, with percussion - distortion we did not notice with our lower-priced CX-500 in-ears, or our IE800 in-ears, which handle percussion quite well.

Overall-we would rate the Sennheiser IE80 a Snowboarder's Headphone par excellence. Here is a typical snowboarder, or musician type.

Note the KRK Monitors in the background: an excellent choice, if you would like decent and enjoyable computer sound.

Note: We can not unfortunately let ourselves assign a value rating that takes into account the value of product packaging. The Sennheiser IE 80 comes is a quite magnetic box, but this is not a real in-use item, as is the plastic kit of accessories, so we leave out 10 points which is rather unfair. If the IE 80 is your only pair of in-ear headphones, there is nothing wrong with the $450 retail or $499 USD SRP. You'll spend more on your snowboard, jacket, or even goggles, perhaps, so you might as well enjoy nice buds.
