The Audeze LCD-2 Headphone ($999.00 USD) is a professional headphone. It is suitable for long-term studio (or home, non-luxury) use an presents a viable investment. You will find more detail and long-term reliability (and pleasant comport) with the LCD-2 than with our go-to-headphone, Q701.
The Q701, on the other hand (Quincy Jones Special), is suitable for the studio in the home - where you will not have band musicians.
The Audeze LCD-2 is our de-facto recommendation for those souls looking for a non-luxury headphone. The quality of the leather is worse than with the Audeze LCD-3 Headphone in the headband, and in the ear-cups (a factor of luxury) too. Speaking of luxury, the quality of the wood in the LCD-2 is actually higher - the Caribbean Rosewood.
The Audeze LCD-X and LCD-XC on the other hand are non-viable products - illegitimate, if you like. Not musically or aesthetically satisfying by a yard.
Band instruments, for comparison, used to be around $1000.00. If you wanted solid gold or silver, they would be more.
The Yamaha YTS-26 Tenor Saxophone is presently $2,574.00 USD, directly from Yamaha. It's a terrible saxophone, suitable for a beginner. Yamaha's YTS-87ZII is presently listed at $6,550.00 USD and is available directly from Yamaha. It's a professional instrument, with limited use-life.
Such is inflation when a product at used to be $1000.00 is now $2,574.00. And that is equivalent to a pair of gold-plated metal sunglasses in non-prescription.
It's not a question of value. The Audeze LCD-2 is very good at that. It's better than the $100 pair of in-ear (diamond diaphram) headphones we used to listen to, while playing $1000 and $5000 alto, tenor and soprano saxophones.
For those in the know, Pine nuts make great tasters, too!
Here's to Courtney Pine.
