Bummin' It: Rotel Michi RHB-10 Amplifier Review

Rotel RHB-10, image 3

With 200 watts at 8 ohms, 330 watts at 4 ohms, likely 265 watts at 6, the Rotel Michi RHB-10 Amplifier ($2,700.00 USD) makes a likely perfect generalog companion to the NHT 3.3 Loudspeaker.

The frequency response of 10 Hz to 130 kHz (+0 / -1dB)  is ok, and good enough for speakers - with limited bass response.

The S/N ratio of 130 dB (HF/A) is fantastic.

The crosstalk of 100 dB is succonday, sufficient.

THD of 0.03% is a little high.

ROTEL MICHI RHB10 NEW!! [Expired]

Here's a post from Audiogon:

"A RARE rotel michi rhb10, purchased new in 2010 from a German ex rotel dealer that had a michi series stock from the mid-late 90's.
this one is probably the last new rhb10 on the planet, it was the only one this dealer had.
Also, it is the last generation of the rhb10 (there were several changes between the different generations).
the amp had been given the upgrade company SE upgrade !
as always with the upgrade company upgrades, nothing was changed in the circuit tolpolgy, only replacement of several stock parts with contemporary ones that has better specs and better audible results, plus their unique emi/rfi treatment.
I used it for sound evaluation for a few hours and since then back in the box while i had my symphonic line set-up (already sold)
I am very much familiar with this power amplifier and i liked it very much before the upgrade, but i wanted it to reach maximum potential so i sent it to the upgrade company as i did with other units with great success.
for those who are familiar with the michi series, the "home" sound of the rhb-10 is still there ( a good thing), but it is now far more quiet and delicate as if it is a 5k+ amplifier !
every part of the spectrum was bettered after the SE upgrade.
one has to hear in order to believe.
in fact, i have compared the rhb10 before even starting the breaking in process, to my former symphonic line kraft-300 and was shocked to hear that the michi is a serious contender to the 20k+ kraft amp !
so when i write it sounds more like a 5k amp it is very conservative, better comparision would be to a 10k amp.
from my past experience with the rhb10, it works great with solid state preamps, but to my taste it will yield the best musical results when matched with a supreb tube preamp.
the ouput caps in the rhb10 (8 big ones) are blackgates!! that are considered in the industry to be among the very best ever produced.
these caps need 1000 hours to fully open up, and a minimal 500 hours to start singing !
as stated above, it already sounded impressive from the first several hours i auditioned it, but i can imagine how amazing it will be after the break in process completes.
more information on this great amplifier can be found in "thevintageknob.org" web site.
there you will understand how well built is the michi rhb10 with many expensive part throughout.
a similar amplifier today would probably cost several times more than it's 2700$ retail price in the mid-late 90'.
To michi collectors, this is truly a unique opportunity to own this legendary amp that is not only NEW! but improved in order to reach maximum potential.
I am liquidating all my audio system so this one (which is very close to my heart) has to go too.
changes in conditions and priorities forces me to depart from this hobby.
The rhb10 is currently configured to 220v but can be configured to 110v prior shipping.
thanks for looking."

You will want the RHC-10 Passive Controller ($.. USD) to go with, and the RHA-10 Active Preamplifier also.
