Going Pro: The Hi Fi Man RE300a Earbud

First, I must say that I absolutely hate Android.

It is a ridiculous operating system, designed for ridiculous people, with a few successful applications. Hate is a strong word. I despite it, because it is a copy. A copy of Apple. It has given birth to a few very nice mobile phones, but they are crippled by having the Android operating system, rather than iOS.

One would think that Google.com could do better. I know myself, as a second-rate intelligence, taught myself to program by developing copies of the programs I admired. This meant that I developed a derivative version of Norton Utilities as my first Pascal program. The function was different, but the user interface was entirely the same. It was easy, that way.

A first rate intelligence like Linus Pauling developed the entire Linux operating system (Linux OS), in the same time I took to develop my Norton Pascal application.

A second rate intelligence, Linus Sebastian, got flown to Sennheiser to do a company tour.

That said, Google has developed a market cap ($400B) now in excess of Mansa Musa. Could we do better?

Headphones are our muse, so it is our pleasure to review the Hi Fi Man RE-300a. In fact, speaking of 300, we purchased our first product for review in the Fang Bang's Hi Fi Man, HE-300 Headphone. The a is for Android, and the RE is for our regard to Fang Bang and Hi Fi in general. We purchased the HE-300 at HeadphoneBar (www.headphonebar.com), and later had a fantastic on-line purchase experience with the HiFiMan website (head-direct.com/)  with the Silver-Coated Coppper Cable (3M). Ours was 8M, but the 3M is still viable and available for $60.00 USD. 3M shares are available for $165.30 USD. (3M CO).

Realistically, you'd expect $300.00 USD for this product. The Hi Fi Man RE300a. It has unbelievably solid design, the RE300. From the side profile, you will see it has the egg, or 1960's lounge chair design of the Hansen. It could easily be manufactured with ceramic, and reminds us of our Sennheiser IE-800. Think the Channel J12 Automatic or the original Rado Ceramica in terms of exclusivity.

Listening Chair of the Year: The Hansen.

You'll notice we are saying a lot in terms of positivity of the RE-300a Earbud. You'll also notice that we're calling it an earbud, instead of a headphone. When Sony released the Walkman, they also released the Earbud headphone. When you are walking, the headphone is essentially, your bud. In terms of esthetic pleasure, Hi Fi Man is at the top of the game. You can imagine the functional material of the casing (we can see it in steel) changing, perhaps the quality of the earpad, and maybe the quality of the screen-printing, but that's it.

In terms of earpad, it reminds us strongly of our Etoymotic ER-4S, a quality in-ear headphone if there ever was one. We admire Etoymotic, and we certainly admire Hi Fi Man.

They have integrated the cable stress relief section remarkably well, both functionally and aesthetically.
