Hegel HD30 Digital to Analgoue Converter Review

"Is it real, or is it Devialet?"

Just as in Canada, there is CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA)), in Hi Fi, not only are the proponents of Vinyl, there are proponents of "Real Amplification" (read: non-digital) irregardless of source. With a Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) of 150 dB, the Hegel HD30 DAC ($4,800.00 USD) is audio's first fully-functioning 24-bit component. More-over, it provides the wonderfully functioning DSD and is poised be the ideal source.

In fact, it's performance borders on 25-bit.

What's wrong with the picture? Well, it's not flat - it's faceplate is marred by a nafty vacum-flourescent calculator style sweet-arse display (remember: boobless? 55378008 upside down) and non-necessary knobs: a pair, in fact!

Hegel is not immune to performance. Their Super Headphone Amplifier / DAC for example, is 140 dB in terms of noise floor.
