Audrender Music Server and Player
Review

Aurender W20 Music Server

Well it seems pretty silly to recommend a Media Server in 2016.

Still, the Aurender W20 ($17,600.00 USD) is mighty pretty. It looks nice, with the iPad schleped up against it. It's the sort of product for someone who would of bought the Logitech Transporter, previously. That is, the audiophile customer.

Should you not want the hard drive, we can recommend the Lynx Hilo ($2,499.00 USD). It's got the same sweet ports you'll see on the Aurender W20, but with a DAC, ADC and Headphone Amplifer, too. Not a bad choice.

While shown with 3TB, the Aurrender comes with 12 (6 TB x 2) inside. That photo was likely of an earlier version which Aurender supplied.

It's got a nice back circuit board, the W20, like on a DCS Vivaldi DAC ($34,999.00 USD DAC, $108,496.00 USD full) and associated components (stack), but this can be found on a ASUS Xonar U7 DAC / Headphone Amplifier ($89.00 USD) as well.

The Aurender's ports are equivalent to the DCS Vivaldi Stack ($108,496.00 USD) in terms of quality, we would say, and this is likely the audiophile audience Aurender is going for in terms of sales.

Some readers may choose a Lumin S1 DAC ($ USD) as a complimentary purchase - the whole Lumin range is competitive to Aurender, at least in the same market - like a record aficionado who enjoys a turntable with multiple arms, or simply multiple tables. Ah.

For a base media computer, we would say most would simply choose, like ... of 6moons.com

a Mac 27" with Retina 5K Display, 4.0 GHz, 32 GB, 3 TB internal (or 1  TB flash), 4 GB VGA ($3,499.00 USD). Can be configured with a Promise 24 TB for $3,299.00 USD or a mere $1,599.00 USD for an Aurender W20 typeset.

You get nice ports on the Aurender. Nothing of the sort on the Mac. For such (though not needed), you could go Merging Technologies Horus ($6,429.00 USD) or Hapi ($2,495.00 USD).

Still, the Aurender has a nice case. And such a nice supply.

Joe six pack may not want to spill his beer on top the beast, given the ventilation slots, top, but a nice Louis Vuitton iPad Air case to compliment the device and you're off to the races.
