Micromega M-One Amp Review

http://micromega.com/wp-content/uploads/m1_silver1.png

The MicroMega M-One Integrated Amplifier ($4,000.00 USD) is priced what we believe the Devialet D-Premiere was valued at upon introduction. It follows the same design in principle, though it only has 100 watts vs. 240 for the D-Premiere.

MicroMega calls it an Integrated Amplifier, as do we, while Stereophile says it's a "All in One Streamer Amp."

It's a very very attractive design, somewhat like a scale (size, shape, and design), somewhat like a musical instrument. You will note the beveled Apple iPad cover style top, and the military-like (and old bitmap like) M ◾ One Stencil M logo.

When we think of Streamers, we think of Renaissance Faires: something out of Hermès or Elizabethan England. We do not think of Classé.

Now let's be fair, the design is much better than what we are hinting at.

It looks like something in fact which you would see at the back of a music store. (Based on the lower diagram). Something a bit like a bolder MT-32, not quite a Wavestation A/D. The binding posts are an interesting addendum.

Of course, it's the Mircromega M-One, All in One.

Now Korg had a M1 ("M One") also. That was the musical workstation (61 keyed) which kicked off the workstation revolution (the populist one... the world already had the) from Synclavier.

Korg manufactuered the Wavestation A/D and the M-One has both analogue (XLR) inputs and outputs (XLR), also, not to mention some nice digital (24/384 kHz).

The A/D was 16/48, though we'd expect 32/384 kHz, today.
