Tower of Power: Funk Audio Line Array Loudspeaker

If you're looking for home audio loudspeakers you basically have two options. The Steinway Lyingdorf Model LS (In Room) - $ USD and The Wisdom Audio LS-4 - $ USD. How about something a little less expensive?

Using what appears to be the inexpensive drivers of the Carver Amazing LS, the Funk Audio Line Array Loudspeaker ($15,675.00 CDN) and ... brings upper-echelon Craftsman balance into the cozy home.

On their own, the Funk Audio Line Array Pair brings 101 dB / watt efficiency and 20 Hz to 40,000 Hz frequency response (80 Hz recommend).

The 18.2 Subwoofer Pair ($18,920.00 CDN) brings 10 Hz and likely lower response extension.

At one time, we'll admit we owned Graphic Equalizers (GE).

If you want an equalizer (E), this isn't the one to get. You'll want something known as a Parametric Equalizer (PE). Failing that, should you not be working live-audio, you'll want something like the Cello Audio Palette or FM Acoustics FM-133 or FM-233 Harmonic Linearizer in your home.
One of the most inexpensive and popular Parametic Equilizer (PE) is the Behringer DCX-2496 UltraDrive Pro. It's used by Sanders in his 10C System.

Now let's look at the Funk Audio Subwoofer - 18.2 - Power Level 1 - $9,460.00 CDN on it's own.

It's frequency response, between 10 Hz and 200 Hz is not +/- 3 dB, but +/- 30 dB. Is EQ'ing a solution?

Of note is the Green Line (non ALO). Let's look at 80 Hz: With 100 dB playback, 1.99 dB of distortion would be reasonable and is the figure. How about 17.8 dB (20 Hz)? 31.6?

Would a Velodyne DD-18 Subwoofer Accelorometer circuit be useful in the 18.2 by Funk?

  1. Funk uses PEQ and the parts are professional level. Additionally, the drivers, mainly the 6.5s would have a tighter tolerance. One thing that is also forgotten is also the size of the subwoofer vs Frequency response and where the majority of sound is. You should drop by the forums and see many people that have actually heard the performance of this sub.

  2. Per the measurements from data-bass.com the Velodyne DD-18+ had more distortion at 20hz. 26.78% to be specific and that was at 103dB. The Funk 18.2 is hitting 10dB louder with lower distortion.
