Run the Gauntlet

Is that a D-Premier in your pants? We have much to say about the Gamut D3i and D200i. Let's get into that now. The D3i by Gamut, if it's missing anything, it's a power button, but that's off to the left. You'll see a steadfast design ... a bit reminiscent of The Incredibles by Disney. If you read about it, some say it's all about architecture, as much as the D3i is about design. Now the D3i is very steadfast, yes, but it's also very trope. It exemplifies a pre-amplifer in it's specification. Disney's Incredibles was set in the 1960's, and there certainly very much is something 1940's to 1970's about the Gamut. We could say that it's without equalization, a DAC or a power-supply. That would make it hard to decry. What do we particuarly like? The top face-plate is amazing. From the logo to the venitlation design, it's on top. It's royal that the D200i shares that same top. You much more notice the power button on the D200i, how it's inset in the slot. So very Devialet. Yet, D-Premier. Like some nipples on some mojo Double-D's, the knobs on the D3i stick out, on top. So the pair is very much feminine. We can imagine, were it a robot, it would be carrying a cafeteria tray. Think of one of Bender's robotic love interests from Fox's Futurama, and you'll see what we are getting at. But let's go deeper, beyond the surface.

GamuT D3i preamplifier and D200i power amplifier

Let's talk about the Gamut D3i and D200i. Ignoring the techno-swavel, the pair look like something out of Dungeons & Dragons.

Assuming the D3i was a 3-sided dice, and the D200i was your bet, with 33% chance of loosing, 33% of drawing, and 33% of doubling.

The D200i uses a single pair of NPN MOSFET's for it's power amplification. NPN is Negative Positive Negative and is the most common type of bi-polar transistor. Operating at class A, it allows the D200i to pump out a not disrespect able 220 watts at 8 ohms. It will jump down to 400 watts, non-doubling, at 4. So we're not talking about schizophrenia when we talk about bi-polar here, nor Quadrophenia for the very matter. The D200i is strictly a stereo device.
