Angle is Everything

Woven Leather Satchel Navy

Let's look at this woven leather satchel, by Brooks Brothers. ($600.00 USD). From the side, everything looks fine. The only hint of something wrong is the flair around the piping of the handle.

From the side, however, you notice what looks like the cheapness of the leather. You also notice the discolouration around the edges, and the damage caused to the texture by the way it is sewn. The colour of the bar now looks slightly off.

From the top, you will notice what looks to be the cheapness of the lining. You would expect a finer interior lining, like on a proper jacket, with a lovely pattern. The stitching on the handle is fine, but not on the fastening.

Let's look at it in red, however.

Everything looks fine.

Red

You are used to the cheapness of the product, due to your exposure to Chinese lacquer and rattan, and nothing looks off. It actually looks great. With the blue, you like the subdued look of the bar. With the red, you like the sheen of the gold.

Well, there's a cross-stitch. We're not sure (of course there's one animal) why there's not one piece. Again, with the happiness of the red, you don't notice anything off with the lining. :)
