Gryphon and Krell

Let's look at the Gryphon Reference Monoblock and the Krell of the time.

150 watts class A, 8 ohms
200 watts class A, 4 ohms

300 watts class A/B, 4 ohms
600 watts class A/B, 2 ohms
1200 watts class A/B, 1 ohms

For a 150 watt monoblock, that's a pretty nice delivery.

Now, it's odd that it's class A/B. That's a bit Parasound!: Class A power up to a large amount (6W, 2200II), but no! [For reference we had a Parasound HCA-2200II and gave it away.]

You get a choice on Gryphon: Class A or Class A/B.

The Krell was fully Class A, however. Let's not make an Ass of ourselves.

With class A/B you get power delivery mimicking that of a Krell KSA-150.

The Krell, howerver, employed something known as Sustained Plateau Bias, which Stereophile talked about in their review of the KSA-100S.
