The best present we ever got was a 128. A Commodore that is. The screen wasn't very good, but it was 80 collumns.Paperback Writer was an amazing piece of software (very usuable).
Paperclip was usable as well, but oh so gauche.
Should you be into accounting, you will want many collumns. Something like Steve Job's NeXT Computer running Lotus Improv will add dimensionality, and take Microsoft Excel to the cleaners.
