When you're traveling with a symphony orchestra, the Tympani is likely the largest instrument (other than your stage piano), on tour.
As a youth, one of our writers went along with a group, "Canada Youth on Tour (CYOT)" around Western Europe, and was amazed that they would spend the added effort to attach a trailer to their tour bus, in order to provide symphonic percussion for the travel.
The Magnepan Tymphani was at the time of introduction, one of the widest efforts in High Fidelity. Admittedly not the width of a symphony orchestra, or the width of full Transmission Audio Ultimate today, it's three panels never the less measured an impressive ... feet, per side.
