ProAc Carbon Pro CP8 Loudspeaker Review

49.2" (1230 mm) high with spikes and plinths,
9.6" (240 mm) wide, 18" (450 mm) deep.
The ProAc Carbon Pro CP8 Loudspeaker is 49.2" high, 18" deep, and 9.6" wide, and only 146.9 lbs heavy. Like the NHT 3.3 (another top performer), the Carbon Pro CP8 is rather deep (18"), compared to most floor-standing loudspeakers.

As such, it is a "mini" Duntech Sovereign 2001.

Besides good bass units, two items that you will note will be the ribbon-tweeter, and the ATC-style mid-range drivers - high quality on each loudspeaker.

However, you can get a ribbon tweeter, on a speaker like the Monitor Audio Platinum PL-300 Loudspeaker, whose response is specified (to 100 kHz).

Likewise, you will be tempted to go for the SCM-300ASLT, ELI 150 or the very good looking SCM-50 Anniversary, should you like that ATC driver.

You'd be mistaken to over-rule the CP8. Since producing the Response 3.3 loudspeaker, ProAc has been making true performing reference stereo loudspeakers.

In terms of styling, the ProAc Carbon Pro CP8 is very Tidal. The Sunray G2 (another large loudspeaker) is often shown in a similar finish. Let's not be Contriva.

With a recommended power handling of 10 to 500 watts, the ideal counterpart to the Carbon Pro CP8 is the
Aavik Acoustics U-300 Unity Amplifier ($30,000.00 USD), we would say. It's slide projector / VGA projector look fits the aperture like look of the CP8's, ideally.

Unique to ProAc is the Hewbrew Chai looking port-stand scheme. This (the look), along with the tweeter, is our main objection to the CP8. In audible terms, it fares well, indeed.

Companies such as B&W with their 800 Diamond series, Focal (to a lesser effect) with their Utopia series, and Canton, with their Reference DC (and Jubilee) floor-standers all use floor-porting more admirably.

Recently, even Linn with their Exakt Accubarik model have admirably mastered loudspeaker aesthetics, and floor-porting, ideally.

Along with Duntech (the PCL-25 is excellent) and Dunleavy (SC VI, preferably), we recommend ProAc Carbon Pro (CP8) Loudspeakers (though we are saddened by the removal of the ring-radiator) for a true audiophile experience.

49.2" (1230 mm) high with spikes and plinths, 9.6" (240 mm) wide, 18" (450 mm) deep

The Carbon Pro CP8 is at the top of the ProAc lineup. Should you wish a Duntech Soverign 2001 in a smaller package, consider it optimally.
