Footprint: The Project RPM-1
We purchased and returned the Project RPM-1 as a good-will gesture to our local high-end retailer, Commercial Electronics. While it was a great looking turntable, we did not like that it had a fishing-line dangling arrangement to the counterweight, and that it was without a sufficient record clamp to our taste.
We were kind enough not to use it, and were kind enough to carry it back, and not ask for any money in return, though it took a second trip to return the papers.
The object image of the Project RPM-1 is lovely. It implies the essence of the turntable - everything is clear - and although, there it is no platter cover - it's no Michelle Gyrodec - it is instantly an iconic object.
Now, Project has an RPM-1 Carbon, however if sound is what you are after, we suggest that you investigate the Project RPM 5.1 which includes a straight forged carbon tone-arm, includes somewhat of a clamp, and at only $500 more than the Project RPM-1, produces a musical as well as listenable sound.
*Fans of curved arms may be best advised to check out pairs of Technics SL-1200's for their fancy.
*Though we have not used it, we lean to the Clearaudio Statement as best being able to tackle LP replay.
