From the side, the VAC Statement 450 IQ Monoblock Power Amplifier is a gorgeous product, Mac aficionados will love. It has the look of a
From the front, something is missing. It doesn't have the toned elegance of a Audio Research GS (G Series) component, although it does have the evaluated status of a Reference Series by Audio Research, thanks to a second box.. On the McIntosh front, it's not far from the MC2KW in stature, an extra box not-withstanding, though it does not have the weight of a McAmp, visually.
The IQ Moniker is an interesting matter. As with historical stereo wattage, 100 is American average, 200 is generally plenty, 160 genius, 250-300, the highest estimated, so 450 is quite a statement.
IQ is decreasing, recently, along with life span in America. Computational Intelligence (CI), however si not. Elon Musk recently (10/2014) warned against AI over-coming human-level progress (Bobby Fisher was 187) and thus over-coming humans.
In terms of pure power, it is not quite a Classe CT-M600 (600W) or Bryston 28BSST / Anthem Statement M1 amplifier (1000W), however, in context, it is more than 1/10th an Analog Domain Apollo amplifier (4000W), or 2.25% of a Pivetta Opera Only (20,000W), on a per-channel basis. Let's forget IQ.
