Revisiting the Past: The Proceed
The Proceed Pre remote is great. It's like the Commodore C64C in outline. Looking at it, however, you'd think it controlled a nuclear reactor. It's a solid device that controls. We've only been to one nuclear facility (Chalk River), and it was a rush to see a Commodore C64 in use there. Not controlling the reactor: that was a control panel more akin to a steam-plant, with large colourful push-buttons and such. It was just displaying the daily events and such, as it was one of the few computers then that came with a RCA video output, and could be easily programmed for TV. Stations a the time would also use them for TV listings, in some cases.
Just as it was a rush to stand on the CANDU reactor, knowing that it could explode, it was a rush to pick up the Proceed. A nice solid device designed by Mark Levinson, it offers not just a great remote, but balanced IO. Proceed also made great amps, so those looking to collect might consider the Proceed Amp 2 and 3 modules, as well.
Today, you'll find Mark Levinson at the helm of Daniel Hertz and Candu, still supplying power.
