The TAD Evolution One interested us in the consumer space. In the
reference space, the TAD Reference One. In the Art Space, the lofty TAD M1.
Here comes the CR1. Oh my, why? Some like a floor-stander. Ok. Now here's the CE-1.Ok.
At 800,000 円 JPY or $7350 USD per pair, that's roughly price-equivalent with the Focal SM9, minus amplifier or the ATC SCM25A. A roughly equivalent powered monitor, the Focal ($7590, B+H) is known for having nice tweeters (BE), while the ATC 25A is known for having a good mid-range driver (not pretty).
Consumer Electronics (CE) is the market under which hi-fi obsides1. The TAD CE1 loudspeaker is clearly intended to occupy this shelf space. It's flat, with set sides, to its credit, so it's clearly designed to sit that way, like a Beyer, and thus compete with the Focal SM9 at the mixing-desk. Forget the stand, or get it, if you like a home monitor.
The looks remind us of the Tannoy Autograph Mini, with it's whiskey barrel tan, and modest look. It's also like the Barefoot Sound MicroMain, in a strange way. We like that. Way to go, TAD.
Let's set that aside, and say we like the TAD. Not a tad, mind you, but it's a nice composite sketch of things hi-fi. Good job. Let's see a better tweeter, mid-range, now, thank you.
