Oxygene
Oxygène was Jean Michelle Jarre's premiere album for Dreyfuss / Polydore. When one thinks of public performance art, Jarre often comes to mind. His "Place de la Concorde" concert celebrating Bastille Day was the recorded by Guinness as having 1,000,000 listeners. Wow.
Using a ARP 2600, EMS Synthi AKS, EMS VCS3, RMI Harmonic Synthesizer, Farfisa Professional Organ, Eminent 310U, Mellotron, Korg Minipops-7 rhythm machine, and Theremin, he Mike Oldsfielded the entire genre of electronic music with a catchy and poply take on Wendy / Water Carlos.
His Les Chants Magnétiques (81) and Équinoxe (78) come close to the excitement of Oxygène, while he followed it up with "Oxygène 7–13" in 07, as had Oldfield with his re-makes also.
We can still remember the pleasure of comparing a "gold-pressed" Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL) "UltraDisk" rendition of Jarre's Oxygène as compared to the regular Dreyfuss edition on speakers such as the B&W Matrix 801's - the mastering choice.
Now that Roksan (famous for their Caspian - a prince on an amplifier - and Kandy (Candy & Candy, anyone?) - particularly in Britain) has introduced an Oxygene integrated, it behooved us to feature it as Art.
