The Duntech PCL 25 was the first speaker that interested us. Here in Canada, there is the Progressive Conservative Party, and the Liberals. The Liberals are Red, while the PC's are Blue. 25 was a nice year.
Hi Fi Centre was in Vogue, and we had Stereo Row, a line of shops that catered to hi-fi. Even A&B Sound got in on the action, with a top-floor of brands like Moon Audio.
The PCL 25 was interesting - it was basically the mid-section of the Sovereign 2001, which was fantastic. We had wanted to buy it (The Sovereign - today, we have a pair of Maybach Sovereign's to compensate), along with the Sennheiser Orpheus, at the time - we got the HD 650 in retrospect, as the NOS market for the Orpheus is sacro-sacked. The salesman turned us off the Sovereign as he haughtily mentioned that the boxes would be good caskets - jokingly saying that the speakers were worthless - which is odd. Good spot.
The Duntech PCL-25 were some of the best speakers around. Better than the B&W Matrix 805 - which were good - for the frequency range. On par with the with the ProAc Response 3.5, which were mind-blowing good for the cheap looks, and offered unimaginable bass for the enclosure, and everything.
The only other impressive speaker of that era would be the Joseph Audio Pearl, with it's cute little copper ring.
