Sennheiser HD 800 Headphones

If you're into binaural, you'll want a Sennheiser HD800. We have all the best binaural recordings, from when Binaural was in vogue, and can confidently say that the Sennheiser HD 800 fulfills binaural's promise of full 360 degree (in both dimensions) imaging.

The Sennheiser HD800 is ugly as heck but is a nice product. We've had a Sennheiser HD 560 and Sennheiser HD 560 II Ovation and can speak from experience and say that Sennheiser headphones have their issues.

We have our eye on acquiring a pair of Sennhesier HD650 headphones as they at least look like the Orpheus. Like many others we were silly in not purchasing the Orpheus at launch.

Based on our equitable experience with the 560's, well look forward to the HD 800 II, and hope that it is just ever so slightly better than the HD 800.

In assigning a value rating, we base our result on our review of the AKG Q701 Black. It's a good enough headphone for anyone not requiring full imaging, or, the like HD800, proper attire.

It must be said that the HD 800 as we've heard it, does not offer that electrostatic control. We like the Sennheiser IE 800 slightly more as a thoughtful headphone product, as it's well-enough wearable, on the street. We can't say what it's missing otherwise in the HD 800 as a headphone.

We've written this review, because we've finally found a realistic use for the Sennheiser HD 800.

Witness

A sound recording hobbyist or enthusiast will not (witness HiFi as an example) care what he looks like, while he is making or listening to music.

SPL Phonitor Headphone Amplifier

A cultured individual might wish to add the SPL Phonitor to complete the look and the use-case. $1899 USD. It adds some degree of control for non-binaural listening. Otherwise, software and the Sennsier HDVD 800 might be well-enough. $2000 USD.

Most choosing the Sennheiser HD 800 will want to spend around $600 on an after-market cable. The Cardas Clear Headphone cable will do. Choose balanced or unbalanced connection, depending on power amplifier.

With their IE 800 and HD 800 now, Sennhsier has produced playback products worthy of reasonable use. They are known for their Microphones, which are quite lovely.

We still find the Sennheiser Orpheus their best lifestyle product. It is interesting that they produced only one.

We disagree with Jude's assessment of the SPL Phonitor controls resembling those of a luxury sedan. It is a poor analogy. There has never been a luxury sedan. Perhaps only the Bugatti Galipier qualifies as a mention in this undeveloped territory. It has a poor clock, however.




Maybach attempted to produce several models, but only succeeded in producing a convertible. Landaulet. A bit like Rolls's Phantom Drophead coupe. Aston Martin has a nice start at a luxury car - that is a car convertible to luxury - through modification. We recommend and have that they produce a Rapide Tiffany version in terms of kit.

In our opinion, the lack of luxury materials in cars, particularly sedans is widespread. You will find plenty of technology in automobiles, but very little genuine luxury.

Like the BAC Mono, Sennheiser's HD 800 is a pure fit for use item. Highly commensurable with specific user interest, and the degree to which driving or listening is preferable.
