Apple iPad mini 2 Retina Tablet Review

The iPad mini is the Kobo, well-done. While the iPad invented the segment, Chapters kindled our interest in the eBook format.

While we stopped short of the Philosophy we intended (5000 books, translated sources), you don't need to purchase books. PDF will do.

We purchased the iPad mini 2 in 64 GB, Wi-Fi / Cellular format in Silver. We could not believe how poor the aesthetic looked of the Cellular model in person, so we returned it. For $100.00 CDN, we upgraded to the 128 GB, Wi-Fi model. It's all-right. You'll notice a ring around the home button in the iPad mini 3. This looks ugly.

While we never understood the great age art collectors with their walls of 1600 panels...

At 128 GB, the iPad holds 64,000,000 pages of text, minus images. This would allow it to store a mid-sized book collection of 128,000 books. Obviously, there will be some over-head, but it should be enough to store a small book PDF collection if you will.

Some of the pleasures of shopping at a book or media store are taken away in the realm of all digital media. You won't have the same physical perspective, viewing it. About the size of one hard-cover volume, minus the margins (1-2") the mini format is about right for a remote control.

You'll find even if you are a religious scholar, you'll have enough depth for your presentation.

Before you upgrade the iOS, be sure to look at the included wall-papers, and save them, if there's one you like. They're Pixar, in that they're rendered well.

At a resolution of 2048 x 1536, the iPad mini 2 displays a resolution, well-enough. It's not as good (324 ppi vs 326 ppi) as the Apple iPhone 4 and 4S, our go-to memory players, but it's visually good-enough. The bezel edge is cheap, by comparison. It's very plastic, and annoying in it's cheap shininess.

At 7.9" by 5.3" it's about that of a paper-back. Perhaps a small comic book, if you will.

The Apple iPad mini 2, for an in-home remote control, occupies the sweet spot of the Apple line.

You'll find it attractive enough for the first night of use - or the first minutes. Most will prefer the iPad Air.
