The Steampunk Express: The Audioquest Night Hawlk On-Ear Headphone Review

AudioQuest NightHawks

There's nothing that screams cheapitude to these tired eyes more than the Audioquest Nighthawlk On-Ear Headphone. That, or the KEF LS-50 beside it. Unbelievable, cheapitude. The MacBook Pro to the left looks all-right.

Wearing it, how would you feel? When we first encountered it, we wrote Liquid Metal. Look, you've got on the top of your vinyl and velcro seatbelt like headband, a cable resembling no worse than the Cardas  EM5813 Ear Mirrors come with. That or those of the FiiO, as you prefer.  It's got a point, but my does it look ugly. The cable it self looks much better.

Do you feel like a Radio Announcer? The sides of the ear-cups are decorated in the manner of microphone shock mounts and pop filters from the golden age of radio. Quite interesting, and yet useless visual garbage.

Now look at that Liquid Wood. To be fair, it could look like rotted wood, worn away by bees knees, covered in a vinyl and then floor wax, but really it's a shit suprise. You like having a new form of MDF in your audio? Isn't the cheapitude of MDF in your rather expensive loudspeaker enough? Now, you can have sawdust resin, to go! :) Yummy! Condensed and petrified AudioQuest semen, to be polite, we'd say, fois grois.

Now if the ear pads looked like those of the LCD-3 by Audeze ($2000.00 USD), we'd be tempted to forgive it. Less new car vinyl, and more comfy well-worn wallet. So, if not of that petrified bee shit, we'd be tempted to say replace the headband bridge and the ear-cup and driver holders with gold ones, and become the next Art Bell.

Here's to RKO and the AudioQuest Night Hawk Express.

May Mr. Hankee the Christmass Poo bring it to you! :)
