Good Pairs

In hi fi, it's often said that the art is in the mating of the componentry into one organic system. In the 1980's that might be something like mating the B&W Matrix 805 bookshelf / stand-mount loudspeaker with the YBA Integre DT integrated amplifier with some Van Den Hull cable. In coffee, we'll discuss one such system today.

The DeLonghi Dedica 15-bar Pump Metal Espresso Machine offers 15-bar pressure, like you would see in a Nespresso machine. That's a fine choice, could you make your own pods, but for now, the DL goes for gold in a basic setup situation. From the tamper (long handle connected to basket), you can see that it's designed with fresh-grind in mind, although it will handle ESE (not ESL) pods. Like a Cafe Roma, or a professional setup like a La Marzocco FB/70 the Dedica will provide heat. To your espresso cups, that is - it's a good thing.

Now, the Breville BCG450 Ikon Conical Burr Grinder isn't one to turn heads. It's not the Mazzer Major Electric Low RPM Commercial Burr Grinder ($1549.00 USD), that most Coffee Geeks will select and choose at home. But it's Roman enough, so as we've chosen the DeLonghi 15-bar over a Cafe Roma, it's plastic and faux aluminum won't lead you astray.

Together they make a winning team.
