The Boulder 1010 is the most medical looking piece of technology in the lineup. Perhaps the 1012 DAC / Preamplifier looks more MRI like, but the 1010 looks more reasonably like an ECG hookup, which is what more might see - we work close to a hospital, so we feel qualified to say - our address also happens to be 1010, so hence our intrepid interest.
On the side, you can see a motif that looks like mountains. Here in Vancouver, we have our twin peaks, the Lions, as we call them, but our mountains in Vancouver are mere foothills (excepting Whistler) compared to those in Colorado like the mighty Vail and Aspen.
The better private lodges in Europe have great stereos, and should you travel and stay at one of the better ski chalets in Colorado, it is likely you will see Boulder.
While the Great Colorado River gives much of the Western US it's romantic and geographic distinction, even in Colorado Springs, a much smaller city than Boulder, you will see their electronics in store.
We can't say that we like the volume control knob on the 1010 - it's too jog-shuttle like, or that we truly like the front face-plate as well, though the cut in the middle is nice along with the VFD in size and aspect. Nicely traditional. Regardless, other than the screw-in IEC terminal (as opposed to the very hospital grade 32A commando plug on the amps), we see nothing remiss here.
Pair with 1050 times two or 1060 mono if you prefer a little less.
