AKG K712Pro

The AKG K712 (Pro) is literally the Lamborghini Gallardo of headphones. Couple with an iFI IDAC and some Audioquest Coffee, and you'll be off to the races, conceptually speaking.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2

At $200,000~ CDN or so, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 is a reasonably affordable car. You'll get none of the cheaply laid plastic of a Ferrari coupe, say, and won't be paying the outlandish prices of a Pagani Huyrah, to name names, but that's it.

We looked at a nice orange LP560 similar to the 550 above before spotting the K712 at Headphone Bar,  here, and have seen a fantastically detailed one in black, like our K550 Pro, with excellent interior detail at Blue Star Motors.

Insurance, 10 years, $150,000~

AKG K712 Pro Headphones ($499.00 CDN)
+  iFI IDAC DAC / Headphone Amplifier ($300.00 CDN)
 Total: $800.00 CDN

It's not a bad comparison. The AKG is mid-priced and high-performance all the way. The leather stitching won't be out-done by your Gallardo or Fendi cushion Casa , and the detail and image sonically of the AKG will not be out-played by a similarly priced Stax Omega II.

Comparing apples to apples, you can get 6 AKG's for one Fendi cushion, or your can seat your ass on a nicely cushion LP-550-2, it's your decision.

Just be sure not to wear the AKG's in the Lamborgini, as your $15,000/year insurance premium won't cover local laws which seem to prevent headphone listening while cruising.

Enjoy.
